The Department of Social Sciences offers a variety of academic courses concerned with society and the relationship among individuals within the society through careful scholarly research and investigation. The Department is dedicated to preparing trainee teachers to become reflective, competent, and concerned and who will be capable of making informed decisions, solving personal and societal problems, being aware of their rights and responsibilities, can exercise their responsibilities, and contributing to a world of diverse cultures and opportunities.
The Department offers undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Education (B. Ed.), Junior High School Specialism. The courses include Social Studies, Religious and Moral Education (RME), History, and Geography. As a teacher training institution, the Department is committed to training highly qualified, motivated new teachers in the area of Social Science subjects who are effective, engaging, and fully prepared to teach the Basic School Curriculum to improve the learning outcomes and life chances of all learners they teach as set out in the National Teachers’ Standards.
